メディアタイプとは

以前はMIMEタイプとも呼ばれていたもので、 コンテンツの形式を表現するものです。

例

  • HTML: text/html
  • XML: application/xml, text/xml
  • JSON: application/json

特殊用途

特別な用途に使われるものがいくつか定義されています。

  • x.: ローカルで使用するとき
  • prs.: 個人使用フォーマット
  • vnd.: ベンダ固有フォーマット

登録プロセスは簡単になったので、x.は原則として使わないようにとRFC 6838で書かれています。 以前はx-がローカルで使用するために予約されていましたが、変わったようですね。

However, with the simplified registration procedures described above for vendor and personal trees, it should rarely, if ever, be necessary to use unregistered types. Therefore, use of types in the “x.” tree is strongly discouraged.
